General suggestions and requests

 • Very few people using the Edit Summary field below the edit field. It would be nice if everyone else would just take a few extra seconds to fill that in with a one-liner explaining what you've changed.
 • If you make a news post, you should include ~~~ at the end of it. This will automatically add your name to the post. If you make a comment on a discussion page (either this page or any page with the word "talk" in it followed by a colon), you could use ~~~~ instead to also include the time of posting.
 • I've moves the News to its own page. (Click on "Current events" in the sidebar.) This however leaves the main page looking rather empty. Any ideas as to what could go there instead? The MediaWiki projects usually have a featured article and other similar things. Other wikis use the main page as a sort of table of contents, with links to all the most important articles (for example, the FAQ).
 • If you have suggestions of any kind, please post them here. If it's something unrelated to an existing section, you can create a new section. You can prefix comments with one or more colons to indent them... though it's not strictly necessary so long as there's some way to see where one comment ends and the next begins.

The Jargon Files

All the pages whose names begin with the prefix "Jargon/" need to be either deemed useless (as some of them are administrative pages for a different wiki software) or merged into appropriate pages that do not have this prefix. —Celtic Minstrel 20:03, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

I done be workin' on dis. Verwy slowly. Tamarron 20:29, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

A question: should files that are actually board jargon be categorized in a "jargon category"? Ie, a category of boardie-specific language? That way although they could be linked to from a list of Jargon, while keeping their names. I may have just have been going about this rather wrong.  :( Tamarron 10:01, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

I'm hoping to be able to create a new namespace for them. But only Locoluis can do that. Failing that, probably a category is a good idea. —Celtic Minstrel 17:28, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

The OCD material

I already started the transfer of the OCD material, and much of it is complete, but there is plenty of stuff still to be transferred. Any red-links in The Board and the FLEET articles, for example, need to be transferred. —Celtic Minstrel 20:03, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

Templates

The most important templates are Template:PFF, for creating a character profile, and Template:Boardie, for use on your user page. Both are self-documented. —Celtic Minstrel 20:12, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

I'm now categorizing the useful templates here. —Celtic Minstrel 22:03, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
As for the non-useful templates, you can check whether any pages link to them, and then delete them. - wacko 16:36, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
Either that, or fix them so the are useful. Locoluis specifically requested that I not delete the chart templates. And all of them would be useful if they worked as intended. —Celtic Minstrel 19:52, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Pages that probably should exist, but don't

The following pages are linked to from various parts of the wiki interface, but they don't exist:

 • Project:Policy – linked from the Delete page. Probably should also be linked on, say, the move page. I'll look into that. —Celtic Minstrel 17:30, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

Categorizing Boardies

I've creating new categories for categorizing the Boardies. See also here.

There are now separate categories for active and inactive users, as well as a category that lists them by country, containing subcategories for various countries. The only problem is that each country's category needs to be manually placed in the main category by editing [[Category:Boardies by Country]] into the country-specific category page.

Regarding Jargon/ConvertSpacesToTabs

Archived from Talk:Jargon/ConvertSpacesToTabs
Can this whole page be deleted? The comment at top says it's obsolete, and the Text Format page doesn't exist. Thoughts? Tamarron 09:22, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

Celtic Minstrel mentioned that there were some things Locoluis didn't want deleted. If this page isn't one of them, then yes, it can be deleted. There are some other pages like this one which appear to be old wiki help pages, and these can be deleted. Be sure to check beforehand what links to those pages, and remove those references as well. -- wacko 16:25, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
The only thing he mentioned he didn't want deleted is the Chart pages. I've deleted the page. —Celtic Minstrel 16:52, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
