Talk:Welcome Aboard

So what are feelings on archiving this page, or at least making an alternate that is more relevant to today's board? I take from the note box on the page that CM is in favor. Any thoughts? One idea could be to make an "alternate reality" version of this page; keep the concepts, but change the boardies and examples to fit the current ones. This could be potentially continued down the line with new iterations of boardies. Could be cool.

Yes, I am in favour. If you want to archive it somewhere, sure. A good start would be simply to replace the names of inactive Boardies with more active ones. Beyond that... I'm not really sure. —Celtic Minstrel 21:37, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

I also am in favor... even if it is just an excuse to use my "Oh yeah... don't hit on the faerie. Her boyfriend will literally smite you with the power of God." line. :P Ed 01:04, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

On a side note... for :P you can type {{razz}}. Icon_razz.gif (Oh, and you probably shouldn't mark comments as "minor"...) —Celtic Minstrel 02:54, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

Noted. Icon_razz.gif I have it set to automatically check off "this is a minor edit", and normally I don't even think about that...

Anyway, back on topic. Copy+pasting from the page and replacing the names, along with a few minor edits, I get

"I sure as the Other Side hope you didn't join up for the women, 'cos the Boss don't qualify, Lady Dragonlet's outta your league, Voice'll kill you if he catches you making eyes at Keaira, and if you're dumb enough to lust after Eduarda you deserve everything you're gonna get. And don't even think about any of the Roomies...

Don't go for the men either. Tech's a construct, Bankan's taken, Bob's all metal and mostly hardass, HK and Ace hardly ever leave their armor... and even the comparatively normal ones like Stardrake'll happily rip you a new one if they catch you staring. For your own sake, stay away from Roadkiller! If you go downstairs...well, Dave's bad news and Roger's worse. Stick to Speculation, it's healthier. Talk to Luis and Wacko, they like newbies and may even have spare time, if all Hell hasn't decided to break for lunch and hold a picnic on Earth with innocents as the party snacks."

Not bad – I don't see the need to replace Margaret, though, since she's a roomie. And I don't think Voice would really kill people for "making eyes at" Keaira, though I suppose the "newbie officers" could be saying that just to scare them. —Celtic Minstrel 01:04, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Like I said, it was just a quick-and-dirty edit. Feel free to revise as you see fit. Ed 01:15, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Removal of dead links

The reason I removed the non-working links is because, to me, anyway, a page with a lot of dead links looks messy. The D-let redirecting to Bankan thing was because that's the only page that has anything to do with the Lady Dragonlet character. In retrospect, that was a really dumb move on my part.

Still, though, without articles on Mike, Roger, Margaret, et al, it doesn't make much sense to link to the blank page. Just my two cents. - Ed 20:39, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Well, there will definitely be an article on Hell, eventually, copied from here. Articles on the Roomies may be worth creating – they are after all covered on OCD. The only link that is questionable in my mind is "Comicside".
Generally dead links indicate a page that should exist, but doesn't yet. I'd say that a better reaction to dead links would usually be to create the page they point to. If you have good reason to believe the linked page shouldn't exist, though, it makes sense to delete it.
If you really want, it's probably possible to change the CSS for dead links to make look less messy. The appropriate place to discuss that sort of thing (along with any other stylesheet-related stuff) would be here.
Again, just my 2¢. Icon_wink.gifCeltic Minstrel 03:15, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
Hmm... I can see the logic of not wanting to update this page to re-link something every time a new page. Broken links are bad, but Revision History: Welcome Aboard (added link) seven or so times would likewise be messy. Another 0.0233400008 Canadian dollars from me.
